“Regal Elegance:
The Royal Wedding continues to influence the wedding industry. In 2012, brides are adding some modesty to their wedding gowns but adding a modern flair. Strapless gowns continue to appeal to brides. And yet, they are adding cap sleeves or wearing a lace shrug for their ceremony and removing it later for the reception. Therefore, finding a nice balance between classic and contemporary.”

Pop of Color:
At the New York Bridal Fashion Week in 2011, designers were showcasing bridal gowns in many different colors - including black, fuschia, gray and nude. As always, white and pale ivory continue to be the norm. However, brides are adding their own flair of color with embellished belts and sometimes even brightly colored shoes!

Don’t Be Afraid of a Little Sexy:
The fit to flair wedding gown is still in high fashion with brides in 2012. And the fashion-forward bride is even looking to the high-low hemlines and front slits. Brides are beginning to show more leg as it seems skin isn’t just for the shoulders, anymore.

“Trends Columbus brides are looking to incorporate or requesting, similar to the national bridal market, Columbus brides are looking to be unique. Typically, that means brides are leaning toward the classic silhouette with a fashion-forward flair. Sometimes the contemporary element can be subtle as in looking to British wedding designers to gain the upcoming regal looks. And other brides request variety in their bridal fashion – from wearing a lace shrug for the wedding ceremony to a rhinestone sash for the reception. This offers brides two unique looks while keeping within a budget.”

Give us your Top 5 Tips for Brides looking for the perfect gown!

“The experience of finding your wedding gown can be very enjoyable and exciting! We recommend a few simple tips to ensure the day is a memorable one. Firstly, bring along one or two close friends or family members who have your happiness in mind. Secondly, if you have a budget, tell your bridal consultant so that she can work with you. Thirdly, step out of your comfort zone and try on a style that is new to you. You may be pleasantly surprised and find your dream wedding gown! Also, when you fall in love with the perfect gown, be confident in your opinion. Let your friends and family members know how you feel so that they can support you. And finally, accessorize! Once you’ve found your gown, take that moment to find your veil and other accessories. Since you have your wedding dress on, it is easy to put everything together.”

NAKED Cakes!

Yes, that is what I said, naked cakes… it’s all the rage! So I have randomly heard of the concept of naked cakes, but I never once gave it any attention–well that is until a bride of mine tells me she is DIY-ing her wedding cake! As a wedding planner, my first reaction was “HOLY SMOKES” as I envisioned dripping buttercream, melted fondant, or even worse, a sinking cake! It was then my bride said, “Don’t worry, I am making a naked cake.” So we began to talk through her vision of an icing-less cake. The idea was very intriguing so I began researching the concept. I found cakes that were made with all types of fillings such as fruits. I have to admit, while I am a sucker for a beautiful, towering five layer buttercream cake with flourishes so rich and perfect it pains me when the first slice is cut, the naked cake is fresh. It’s different, guests do not expect it! Thanks to Hollywood’s glam dolls such as Hilary Duff, the naked cake is taking the scene. Reception Tables

Like many planners, a lot of my clients experience what I call “sticker shock” when they see how much it costs to duplicate some of their favorite reception tables they have found during their wedding research through magazines and blogs. The first piece is the cost of florals. It is unrealistic for me to expect that each of my brides knows the exact cost of florals for weddings. So one of the first elements that I try to focus on is determining the look or as I call it, “the reaction” you are looking for. Most of the time my clients want the same thing, “something different.” (That statement makes me laugh.) They want their guest to walk into the unexpected. One great piece of advice I always give is to consider breaking away from the traditional… the usual suspects of big, round tables. Consider breaking up the space with square tables and rectangle tables, give your guest lots to look at, not just the florals. This can considerably cut costs on large floral arrangements. You can create many looks from traditional to modern by incorporating different styles of tables. Rounds are traditional, rectangles can be modern but formal, squares are hip and chic! Still Hot, Ombre` Weddings!

As many of you know, ombre is french for shaded. Throughout the later part of 2011 we saw the emerging trend of ombre design being brought into wedding decor. It is still a trend that is much loved here in the Columbus area, and we will probably see it through the spring and early summer months. Many brides are looking for unique ways to pull in the Pantone Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango, without their wedding feeling too loud and bold. Ombre is a great way to pull vibrant colors into your desired scheme without overdoing it. Here are some of my absolute favorite uses of ombre:
